The sun was out but the temperatures were cold so what better way to spend
several hours than playing with fabric and laughing with friends. The
focus was on our new service project. We've been asked to make altar
cloths for churches in Ghana. Our donation of quilt tops is going to come
in handy as they will be a bright and colorful start to this project.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The details of the project are that we're going to try and
finish 125 to 150 small quilt tops that will be sent to Ghana to be used as
altar cloths in their new churches. These people are hungry to learn
about Jesus, traveling for many miles on foot to church services.
Lutheran Church of Hope is working to build even more churches in Ghana and our
quilts will be a spot of brightness on the altar of these churches.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">So our job, quilt and bind 125 to 150 quilt tops! And
you gals are jumping in enthusiastically! A couple gals quickly put 20
of these quilts on their long arms and they were at Hope Quilters this weekend
ready for binding and labels. Mary Helen and I put binding and backs
together with quilt tops for others to work on. Another couple of gals helped
some people pin their first quilts. We turned in 4 completed altar
cloths this month but people took home several more to complete so I can't wait
to see the results in March!</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">It wasn't all altar cloths this weekend. Show and Tell
once again demonstrated your talent and love of quilting. Be sure to take
a look at the <a href="https://hopequilters.blogspot.com/p/photos.html" target="_blank">PHOTOS</a>. Your quilts will be delivered to
Families Forward, LSI, Door of Faith, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, and Agape.
I kept two for the auction. You are also being prolific with the reading
pillows. I have inquired at MIssions if there are other agencies who
would benefit from these. We know how well they are appreciated at Sleep
in Heavenly Peace. What a great use of our fabric scraps!</p><p class="MsoNormal">Missing out on our January monthly meeting due to a snowstorm only made our finished projects pile that much higher! See you next month!</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5403825677274928660.post-64814691836389980672023-12-11T14:24:00.002-06:002023-12-11T14:24:40.763-06:00December 2023 Work Day Recap<p> As we close out the year I want to thank you all for
your wonderful servant hearts. This post includes the December meeting
highlights and a summary of the year past and a glimpse into
the year ahead. We were blessed with several new faces this year. It's great to see the enthusiasm of new quilters. Also thankful to see
confidence growing in many of you that you are now becoming THE HELPER! Some of you just crank out quilts, loving what you are
doing (when do some of you sleep??). Others of you just step in and do
whatever is needed to support the activity of the day. You are all loved and valued for
your servant hearts, and a prayer for peace, comfort, and inspiration be upon you in this
Christmas season and into the New Year. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">An unexpectedly large crowd showed up this weekend, but then again, you
gals never disappoint! You showed up in force to finish projects and
help stuff the book pillows. An HQ member and her hubby have been doing these pillows pretty exclusively but we all pitched in today to
help, finishing 50 pillows! They are so
simple and fun to pick out fabrics, sew, and finish. We will continue
these and will start to look for other outlets for the book pillows in the new year ahead.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Twenty-nine quilts were turned in to Missions for delivery to LSI,
Yess, Hawthorne Hills, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Primary Healthcare, Hope
Ministries, and the NICU at Blank. </p><p class="MsoNormal">As we concluded the 2023 Panel challenge there were several
cool ideas shared in Show and Tell. Take a look at the photo page on the<a href="https://hopequilters.blogspot.com/p/photos.html" target="_blank">
blog.</a></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">2024 Challenge: Everyone who wants to participate can join the challenge! We'll get lots of practice with Half-Square triangles, made into blocks that will go into a quilt at the end of the year. Using up lots of our pre-cut tubs that could use some thinning out. Contact Jody for pattern instructions if interested.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Here is the final count of our
donations for the year. We couldn't do this without the
regular support of Alyssa, Micheal, and Nicole at Hope Waukee, Creative
Arts ministry, Missions ministry (batting), and our favorite local quilt shop,
The Iowa Quilt Block. It is a delight to be blessed with donations
from friends, family, and random others who've heard about us at Hope or just
through connections you have at work, on social media, and more. Those who
need to offload the burden of unused fabrics find comfort in a group that they
know can put them to good use. Of course, there are also all of you
donating your time, talents, some of your own funds, and likely your stash to
make sure we have what we need to keep doing what we love to do. This
year we had some big donations of machines from people who just wanted to know
that their things were being used. This generated enough funds that we
could buy our own batting a couple of times. You are a blessing to this
world, Praise the Lord! </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>

was a little smaller than normal but those present were fully engaged! Loved seeing you gals dig into the blankets for JOPPA. We ended up
with 11 warm blankets to deliver. This cleared out several donations that
have been made recently and a few bins we've had on the shelves.
Additional flannel was given to other groups for making quilts for Lutheran
World Relief and more blankets for the homeless. And of course, there is
never any waste as the scraps and older, thinner fabric went for stuffing for the reading pillows!</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">39 quilts and blankets were shared at Show and Tell.
Be sure to take a look at the blog's <a href="https://hopequilters.blogspot.com/p/photos.html" target="_blank">PHOTO</a> section in a few days to see them all. Congratulations to a couple of gals for finishing and contributing
your first service quilts! It's fun to see you learn and become more
comfortable in your quilting. It's been very inspiring to the
group to watch your enthusiasm. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Thanks to those who took some of the older kits! We've
made a good dent in those. In December we are going to look at some
of the other bins that have been stagnant for a while. It's
always fun to see what's been hiding in the closet! Who knows what
your creative minds might be inspired to try next💓.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">A special volunteer day for our group was spent building beds (and also friendships 😃) in October, at an event for <a href="https://shpbeds.org/chapter/ia-des-moines/" target="_blank">Sleep in Heavenly Peace</a>. A small time-commitment, approximately 2.5 hours spent, and children from our local area will have an actual bed to sleep on this month! If anyone wants to find ways to help out, go to their website for more details on how you can get involved.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxpatEVpjfPIclKHdhpJHb7__0HZumW_LyV8qa1E6_Ru3p8TpgT268-PNoQ-jPA4PD9RrLAOTL99KXKieTEvT_xMFCfV3qm8qXIad2brpdzL5ZfubsExX4g0taqgw6c5thNiSzVnTjmBuzWLBskFh96U5mXzFzYFHkPpW38q0oAaJBVo6TLVT8A-N4p1I/s1225/45061.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; turned out to be another high-activity and hugely productive couple of Sew
Days. It's easy to assume that "productive" indicates quilt
output. While that certainly is not false (64 since the last meeting), it's also a time of building additional relationships amongst the
group. We had two newcomers who walked in cautiously optimistic but
left feeling excited about coming back. Several felt comfortable sharing
some of their rawest pain in their request for prayers. Others were
thankful for answered prayers. This group is
not just about making quilts. It's so much more. </p><p>We were also
productive in gathering, sorting, and sharing several different donations this
month. While we are blessed to get these donations, many find peace
seeing their loved items being loved by someone else. And there were 27
people attending over the weekend. It was so good seeing so many faces!</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>

work on your mission quilts! We even had a great turnout despite the
fair and vacations. We dropped off 22 quilts that will be delivered
to Sleep in Heavenly Peace, YESS, Bidwell Riverside, Hawthorne Hills, and
LSI. The 7 dog beds are not only another example of your service but also
an indicator of your prolific work!! And now our scraps are also
being turned into book pillows. <a href="http://hopequilters.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">PHOTOS here!</a></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We had a generous financial donation this month which was
perfect timing as we also needed to purchase batting. Always a blessing that we
can make our batting go further by saving those big pieces you cut off your
quilts and either sew or tape them together for use in a smaller
quilt. As batting,
as well as shipping continues to go up, we can do our part to use everything
effectively. It's also a wonderful feeling to know that God continues to
provide for this, our biggest expense!</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Word went out about some of the groups of fabric
that could use some attention and you delivered!! One member is making
several patriotic quilts and another took home several to make into a cute
pattern because she loves the Red/White/Blue. A couple other members stopped by and
each took the pillowcase kits and some yardage for pillowcases. A bin of masculine prints was opened and the thought that they would make some
great guy quilts was born. Turning Twenty will be great with these big prints but
we didn't have time to make any kits. While the next month will be a retreat instead of a meeting, all
the fabric and the closet will be available to us. If you need some new
inspiration, take a look at some of the bins in the closet and see what
treasures you can find. </p><p class="MsoNormal">Speaking of September, the retreat will be on September 7, 8, and 9. The key difference is that we will add an additional day of
sewing on Thursday. A group dinner of pizza is planned for Friday
night. There won't be a Saturday meeting but if you're just coming to
visit feel free to drop by anytime. And please hold your finished
quilts until October. Look for details in the upcoming email. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Enjoy your last few weeks of summer!</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5403825677274928660.post-4672462719953125222023-07-15T09:03:00.000-05:002023-07-15T09:03:37.217-05:00July 2023 Work Day Recap<p class="MsoNormal">It was a full house this weekend at Hope Quilters. And
that was even before the invited guests showed up! We emptied the entire
flat of tables and had to organize them strategically to fit in the room.
One big happy quilting family! <span style="font-family: "Segoe UI Symbol",sans-serif; mso-bidi-font-family: "Segoe UI Symbol";">❤</span><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Nearly everyone started in on our special project right
away. Quilt As You Go blocks were made with scrappy, bright kids'
fabrics. Great way to use up scraps of cotton as well as batting.
Even old flannel worked. I forgot to count how many extra guests we had
but those that came had fun. It's always nice to put faces to
names. By the end of the day on Saturday we had enough for probably 10
blankets. Don't worry if you didn't get in on the fun. We still have
some supplies left if you want to try making one. </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="178" data-original-width="208" height="178" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7k2Z8mEEXG9MZaOPLlsR7LerCikTRV_F4O1aJ8VXn0MbD6mPo0FZU5FXMm_RJoS1auh5F7HUe3YIzKB1EbYT1fYcNIUEmkJogVjEsnuR4TKxT-bvi2MICVQnd4NUqh3f9kbDp97X-kWbfU3ipaxy6aAq5X37VkT2egiMSzIhCoVgJRbL1eiAMpbCcM1s/s1600/tub.JPG" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="208" /></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">From THIS...</span></td></tr></tbody></table><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGuoCBypE9-r_XiPyvzgc1WPW830ZAC_SCVqMAtV0k_viVyiohiBBie9JnYcA_Lg-j4q2LLa6YLM52YeDRJYty-DH0fch2RzhE--jcfwzj9RUKUKDe3ut9lnaNxNDUw1dRId-SU1f0cqqaO7NwwF2_gGcor5Q2JwdcFTWJHBaRitFg4GBAfEC7cDRvKlI/s252/quilt.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="241" data-original-width="252" height="241" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGuoCBypE9-r_XiPyvzgc1WPW830ZAC_SCVqMAtV0k_viVyiohiBBie9JnYcA_Lg-j4q2LLa6YLM52YeDRJYty-DH0fch2RzhE--jcfwzj9RUKUKDe3ut9lnaNxNDUw1dRId-SU1f0cqqaO7NwwF2_gGcor5Q2JwdcFTWJHBaRitFg4GBAfEC7cDRvKlI/s1600/quilt.JPG" width="252" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">...to THIS!</span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div><p class="MsoNormal">Devotions and Show and Tell contained wonderful fellowship as

quilts ready to go. We are donating 9 quilts each to Riverside and
Okoboji Quilt Auctions that will take place on August 4th. Photos of Auction quilts will be on the blog <a href="http://hopequilters.blogspot.com/p/quilt-auctions-2023.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>! All the other quilts can be found <a href="http://hopequilters.blogspot.com/p/photos.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Several also got involved in putting together packets for
our Family and Friends Event happening July 7. This is going to be
fun. Everyone is welcome to join whether bringing a guest or not. The
objective is to expose friends and family to what we are all about by getting
them involved in a quilt project. Who knows, we may find some new members
along the way! We'll be sewing Friday night with dinner at 6:00, however,
feel free to bring your guest anytime. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We had a great Show and Tell. There were 31 finished
quilts turned in and shared with Missions for distribution to Sleep in Heavenly
Peace, LSI, Door of Faith, YESS and more will be going with the teams building
houses as part of Home of Hope mission trips. (This 31 is on top of the
18 we had for the auction!)</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Thanks for those helping to deliver dog beds, auction
quilts, thrift store, and missions. And clean up was a breeze.
Thanks to stepping in and just getting it done. But to all of you, thanks
for continuing to support our mission with your quilting, and your prayers, by
strengthening relationships with your fellow sisters and just all around making
the world a better place because of your beautiful spirits.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Have a good summer!</p>

that I never even recognized the day or all of you mothers. I love the
breadth of Anna Jarvis' meaning of Mother's Day as, "Commemorating her for the matchless service she renders to humanity in every field of life." This says to me that
anyone who loves and cares for anyone like a mother does is worthy of
honor on this day. The sense of care, empathy, and love that is
shown in your service to others is certainly something to honor. So Happy
Mother's Day to all of you, my loving servant-hearted friends. <span face=""Segoe UI Symbol", sans-serif">❤</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We spent the weekend working to take on the donation of
fabric from <a href="https://theiowaquiltblock.com/" originalsrc="https://theiowaquiltblock.com/" shash="k53a/xRw6HQVMr4G6eXg12M4KcjVB6EpO3+JnvY0nkuSY+uwD8yyHCogFq3YcDb1hLUT84v9UcObmYwv8w4t+nf/GxSMnGktXgtdp2v2fq5mApnrOvC/N2J5+MrXLLL2Tv1hgqH1TmakJXN5LUZIcd56p1q0sqbDZTrb0uCpw1o=" target="_blank">The Iowa Quilt Block</a>. We have built such a strong relationship with
Shelly and her staff. They have servant hearts just like we do.
They are happy to see their older inventory used for our mission quilts.
We also support different missions that are important to them. I sure
hope you'll stop by to say hello and Thank You. Tell them you're with
Hope Quilters as they love to see our faces and learn our names.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<ol start="1" type="1">
<li class="MsoNormal">When we get a donation like
this we're like a kid in a candy store. Your imagination runs wild
with possibilities so you just start to dig in. You find something
that speaks to you and then match a few more bolts to go with it and take
it home to find a pattern that works with it. There is even bargaining
going on when two or more people are interested in the same fabric. <span face=""Segoe UI Symbol",sans-serif" style="mso-bidi-font-family: "Segoe UI Symbol";">😂</span>
Can't wait for Show and Tell next month! Should be some pretty awesome quilts to see!<o:p></o:p></li>
<li class="MsoNormal">We set aside many bolts that
we would not use for a couple of other charities. It's nice to have
relationships and connections with like-minded people where we can help
them out as well. Cheryl also works making quilts with Windsor
Heights Lutheran for Lutheran World Relief. This church was a
collection point for Iowa and gathered 1200 quilts in their annual quilt
drive. There are 50 other Iowa Lutheran Churches involved. We
gave them 44 bolts of fabric that they could use to help make their quilts
and share with other churches too.<o:p></o:p></li>
<li class="MsoNormal"><a href="https://www.dressagirlaroundtheworld.com/our-story" originalsrc="https://www.dressagirlaroundtheworld.com/our-story" shash="mVGohKsjzfEpuQXJ3oJDzuVo+i73Q7eehGio92XQwz246DwX9s9zBik/JruOW2JmMsoLrE8Ym7HnTFKlY/rK0bP6wXmQ8nX/s/58fQkE8eKefMLPZS6q9rJczrRZJXLlshSwgX148ViukVLZUoEgKgiPhrLnCJ3X2bQL8RW/TjY=" target="_blank">Dress A Girl Around the World</a> is another organization that has a local

Some fabric hangs around too long and doesn't seem to be attractive for
our quilts. It's amazing how fast this fabric sells in the thrift shop. You can see how the missions of this store are in alignment with our
mission so we are happy they can use what we cannot.<o:p></o:p></li>
</ol>
<p class="MsoNormal">And now, on to what we do with the fabric......36 new
finished quilts were turned in for our local missions! LSI, YESS, Bidwell Riverside, Hawthorne Hills, and Agape Pregnancy will be getting some really
nice new quilts. Additionally, this weekend two of our quilts went with the
build teams going to Tijuana with the Homes for Hope project. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We spent a short time talking about our Panel
Challenge. We have been gifted with
lots of cute panels. We will use the monthly meetings for sharing progress
and learning how your ideas came about. It will inspire others! Anyone needing help with a design, matching fabric, measurements, or any problem-solving will be able to engage people in some brainstorming. Creating
together can be so much fun. </p><p class="MsoNormal">I want to include another reminder for the Family and
Friends Event on July 7th. Plan to bring a family member or friend to sew
with you. We'll plan to eat pizza around 6 but feel free to
bring them any time in the afternoon. You will be the teacher so be sure
to try the scrappy sew-as-you-go block so you are comfortable helping
them. We'll have supplies ready at the June meeting for you to try with.
If you won't be at the June meeting I can tell you more about how to make the
block if you want to try it.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Be sure to take a look at the <u><a href="http://hopequilters.blogspot.com/p/photos.html" target="_blank">PHOTOS</a></u> to
see pictures of all the quilts. In June we'll pull out the quilts we
designated for the auction and get those assigned and packaged up to go to the
delivery drivers. You've seen them all before but it's always so fun to
pull these out as they are always some of our favorites! We won't do Show
and Tell again but they'll be unfolded for measuring so you'll have a chance to
see them again if you're there on Friday and we'll try to remember to take pictures
of them all for the blog.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">It was an exhausting weekend but usually, when Hope Quilters
is exhausting we know there was something exciting going on and that was proven
this time again. Lord, thanks for connecting us with Shelly. Thanks
for putting us in touch with other fabric lovers as well. Thanks for this
group of generous servants who share their time not only for quilting but by
helping and just doing what needs to get done to keep things running
smoothly. You are all such a blessing!</p><p class="MsoNormal"><i>(Due to conflicting events, Hope Quilters took the month of APRIL off from our monthly meeting.)</i></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5403825677274928660.post-13455555266669985702023-03-15T18:38:00.002-05:002023-03-15T18:38:26.892-05:00March 2023 Work Day Recap<p>Wow, what a weekend. We started with our shelves
breaking down and ended with a late-season snowstorm. We were hoping to
get snowed in but everyone decided to be sensible and leave early before it got
too bad. But while we were there it was a typical HQ weekend.
25 quilts and 22 dog beds provided for a fun Show and Tell full of
inspiration. Check out the <a href="http://hopequilters.blogspot.com/p/photos.html" target="_blank">blog</a>
soon for deets and pics. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Lot's of reminders that are worth noting:<o:p></o:p></p>
<ul type="disc">
<li class="MsoNormal">April's meeting will be
"sew at home only". <span style="font-family: "Segoe UI Symbol",sans-serif; mso-bidi-font-family: "Segoe UI Symbol";">😂❤ Did</span> you
catch that????? It's Easter weekend and the church is busy as
are most of us. So we won't be meeting in Waukee on the 7th and
8th. However, feel free to share what you're working on
via the Facebook group. <o:p></o:p></li>
<li class="MsoNormal">We will meet for the April
Retreat though. This is planned for Thursday, April 27th thru
29th. Look for an email update once we get closer to
the date. There will be volunteer opportunities for help with
set up and Friday's meal. Remember we're asking for $10 for the
retreat expenses.</li><li class="MsoNormal">We didn't get to the topic of
sewing with Panels but there was significant interest. We are
going to pick a time at the retreat on Saturday to brainstorm
together. Take a look at the many quilts on the blog made with
panels. We'll talk of other ways to incorporate them into cute
quilts. I have several of Hope's panels we can use and if you have a
panel you'd like to work with, bring it along. This will be mostly
discussion about design and brainstorming together. The math of the
layout will be important but hopefully, we can make it easy for you.
Please let me (Jody) know if you're interested but can't make it to the
retreat. I anticipate we can work on a design discussion as a
regular part of HQ weekends. </li></ul>
<p class="MsoNormal">And some general info:<o:p></o:p></p>
<ul type="disc">
<li class="MsoNormal">We needed to order another
rolling cart. Many people took items home just to help with storage
until we get it back in the closet. So if you are looking for
something in the closet you'll notice the change in storage space and some
things missing. This is temporary and should be back to normal
before the retreat. Thanks also
for the donations to buy the new cart and wheel</li><li class="MsoNormal">We talked again about the
Family and Friends Event. Be sure to put July 7th on your calendar
and find someone you want to invite to be your guest. This year's
project will be a kid's themed scrappy block project. I want all
participants to be sure and try this technique as you will be teaching
your guest. We have supplies ready to go at Hope so see me at the retreat
or a meeting to get your tutorial. I also wanted to share this
picture of one of the quilts we made from last year's event. Our
theme was Veteran blocks. We have supplied 10 quilts using the
quilts that you made. This quilt was personally delivered to the vet and he was surprised and pleased that someone would give him
such a nice gift. We know that what we are doing is
appreciated but it's always to get some direct feedback. Be sure to
share this with your guest from last year so they can see what they helped
create! <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuDSqjV7sIaDY11ekwoj4p4-Kd0y5AcKKFIiKjbs1569JWhbe50_QV2NGrnH87GaUZyyQScGZHl2JQxVksrz6Lzn4EZ1a66n-h2A5j2bhf2UUgJtp5RS-RMSP6KZPUoINQAmG-Zaexr3rNfi53G0NBAV8dp5rQs6W7KP2SVjOMSjIX4a-Si8q7HidN/s1280/Veteran.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="960" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuDSqjV7sIaDY11ekwoj4p4-Kd0y5AcKKFIiKjbs1569JWhbe50_QV2NGrnH87GaUZyyQScGZHl2JQxVksrz6Lzn4EZ1a66n-h2A5j2bhf2UUgJtp5RS-RMSP6KZPUoINQAmG-Zaexr3rNfi53G0NBAV8dp5rQs6W7KP2SVjOMSjIX4a-Si8q7HidN/w300-h400/Veteran.png" width="300" /></a></div>Until the Retreat, stay safe and healthy!</li>

added bonus of a large donation! There is nothing like a group of women
finding new life in someone else's cast-offs. Two tables full of fabric
scraps were picked through and moved on to new life in many other people's
quilting rooms. Then there is the air hockey table full of those items we
won't use and are going to the Thrift Store. Many found something
they could personally use here as well. Such inspiration and
excitement even beyond the next several quilts that will be made from the
fabric donation. </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">As always, Show and Tell was fabulous. We turned in 21
quilts and 6 pet beds. Check out the <a href="http://hopequilters.blogspot.com/p/photos.html" target="_blank">PHOTOS</a> page to
see pictures. </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We started planning our next Friends and Family sewing
event. Put July 7th on your calendar and start thinking about who you
want to invite. This is a time for us to share what we do with

ever. I'm confident God has good things in store for us this year.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">So many reasons........:<o:p></o:p></p>

<li class="MsoNormal">Retreat is coming up.
A dinner is being planned for Friday night. Many people are
bringing quilting friends. Looks to be a wonderfully full
house. You will be receiving a reminder email.</li><li class="MsoNormal">Some of you asked about
receiving blankets. While HQ isn't going to do this specifically,

Guild's effort</a> if you'd like to participate. </li><li class="MsoNormal">A question, mostly by newcomers, is: What size quilts do we need for these organizations? Well, a guide has been put together to help with this. There really are no
strict rules as there are so many outlets. But this should give
you some idea of the types of partner needs that are
more common. See Jody if you need a copy of this guide.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal">And finally, thanks to so many who have taken the lead on
different tasks. Help with set up and take down has become a huge

On to next month!<div><br /></div><div><i>Photos for this month's quilts has previously been posted.</i></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5403825677274928660.post-21583695166091150282022-12-18T15:50:00.001-06:002022-12-18T15:51:23.217-06:00December 2022 Work Day Recap<p><span style="font-family: arial;">What
a wonderful way to end the year! We had a great turnout. A Soup Luncheon was held on Saturday. It was so nice to
take time to slow down, dine and visit! And such good food as well.
Thanks to all who contributed. Several gals shared crafty Christmas
gifts. Reindeer, coasters, earrings, cookies.....this group is so
creative and generous!</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: arial;"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: arial;">At
the end of the year, it's fun to look back on the year's events and activities. It's amazing to see all
that we've accomplished and the fun that we've had. There have been
successes to celebrate but some tough times as well where we've had to
lean on one another. It's wonderful to have this group of women to
lean on!</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b>Donations</b></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: arial;">There</span><span style="font-family: arial;">
were 32 quilts shared at Show and Tell this month. Here are the </span><a href="http://hopequilters.blogspot.com/p/photos.html" style="font-family: arial;" target="_blank">PHOTOS</a><span style="font-family: arial;">. Missions group delivered these to YESS, Agape,
LSI, Bidwell, Joppe, and SHP. We also had a few more
veteran quilts. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: arial;">I also wanted to share
our totals for the year. We don't have a goal or any expectations from
anyone. I believe that God provides and that if we serve joyfully many
great things will happen. I think these numbers demonstrate faithfully
these two aforementioned beliefs. We've been blessed with several donations of fabric.
It's always fun to work with nice fabrics but quality fabric also ensures
that quilts will last for the recipients. Having outlets that will take
any fabric we can't use is also a blessing, both for us and for them.
Some people are just thankful that we can find a good home for something that
was once loved by them. And who would have thought that this group is
also doing a good service for local pet shelters? No fabric, thread, or batting goes to waste! And drumroll please.........my counts show 354
quilts/items shared with agencies. There were also 55 dog beds made from
scraps and 191 pillowcases donated to our friends at The Iowa Quilt Block for <a href="https://caseforsmiles.org/" target="_blank">Ryan's Case for Smiles.</a>
And we're still collecting them but I know we've had 7 quilts already made from
the blocks you all made at the Couples and Friends event. These are
going to Veterans that we are aware of. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b>Events</b><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: arial;">This
year we organized a sewing event where we invited spouses, family, or friends to
sew with us. It was helpful to have others come to see what we do. It
was a lively night of sewing, eating, and conversation. Many thought this
would be a good event to have again.</span><span style="font-family: arial;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: arial;">We also held a 2022 Challenge, for everyone to try something new this year. There were no
rules, just the opportunity to try something new and share it with others.
Hopefully, the encouragement of others in the group helped you to keep going and
possibly master new skills or complete something that you've been trying to get
done. Regardless of what your challenge was, the Show and Tell at our
Soup luncheon was wonderful. Many were very proud of their
accomplishments and the new skills learned. Others were just happy to get some things
done. </span><span style="font-family: arial;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: arial;">We
agreed that we should do the Challenge again in 2023 to be thinking about
something you'd like to try or get done. Use this group to help you out
with knowledge or encouragement!</span></p>

have had the same idea as we had a huge turnout! The room was
packed. Besides the 10 tables in the room, we also use an entire flat of

<p class="MsoNormal">We welcomed several newcomers! I think they all got a good impression

Love to see new faces as they always bring fresh ideas and energy to the group. </p><p class="MsoNormal">Show and Tell was quite impressive again. We
turned in around 30 items to our various mission partners. Be

meeting at our regular time/date next month. However, we are going
to plan some fellowship events to celebrate the past year as well as the
Christmas season. All the sewing supplies will be available but feel free
to bring last-minute Christmas gifts to work on if you need to.
Additionally, Saturday will involve an extended group discussion as we
have the normal Devotion and Show and Tell. But we will also go into
sharing your experiences and the results of this year's challenge. Whether
you have something to show or just want to share what you got out of the
challenge it will be fun to see and hear about the work you've done on your
own. <br /><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #1f497d;">We had another large donation
from the Iowa Quilt Block, which is totally amazing. Please give Shelly a
huge THANK YOU if you stop into the store! The ideas were a’poppin’ and
ladies were putting together possible future quilts as we organized it
all. And also a big THANK YOU to everyone who answered the call to come help sort and organize it all on Friday. This group of

what makes this group pretty darned special.</span></p>

Saturday we honored Cathy Frueh's daughter-in-law, Chelsea, who passed away from metastatic melanoma at the age of 28, married for six months. Good stories,
beautiful family photos, and yummy food made for a very festive day. If you're reading this blog, Chelsea's legacy would be to encourage you to see a dermatologist yearly for skin check-ups! Besides looking at all the beautiful creations during Show and Tell, or relaxing in the rhythms of all the sewing machines at work...this group is also about sharing fellowship and friendship together. June's meeting seemed like an especially
emotional time of sharing. There were some extreme highs and lows shared.
It's a testament to the loving members of this group that others feel comfortable sharing and looking to the group for their support through prayer and fellowship! The Hope sermon on Saturday night given by Pastor Jeremy was
so on point for what transpired in our Praise and Concerns time together. Give a listen if you have a chance. Appropriate title: <a href="https://www.lutheranchurchofhope.org/messages/the-power-of-we---jeremy-johnson---6-12-2022/2042673731710/" target="_blank"> The
Power of We</a></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Now, let's take you on a tour around the room Hope Quilters meet in and help you envision what could be seen at our last meeting. Can you imagine you are sitting at the front of a circle of couches and then
a couple more rows of scattered chairs of people behind the back couch? But the whole couch to the right has absolutely nobody sitting on it. Why you ask? BECAUSE IT WAS PACKED FULL OF QUILTS! <span face=""Segoe UI Symbol", sans-serif">😁</span>. OK, a pic would have been better but
you get the idea. Another way to put it into perspective:</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<ul type="disc">

<li class="MsoNormal">2 dog beds<o:p></o:p></li>
</ul>
<p class="MsoNormal">If you were there you may have noticed that there was a large
stack of pillowcases for Shelley at The Iowa Quilt Block. A reminder that
these will be going to <a href="https://caseforsmiles.org/" target="_blank">https://caseforsmiles.org/ </a>
You have surpassed my challenge to you. We've completed at least <span style="background: yellow;"><b>133</b> </span>that I know about and I know others are in
progress. <br /><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihtiCVtTxsPP0HGpv_DtJRM1FpZ1iN8SjWy-fmqDazgEu2KNP2d50L7jG_NRAVBUNW4y_ZLi5Wk2S2wZFJQdp4D4l6rYJGntSwehVrIB16nWP6fl3r9wBNyWBAQo04HuI7kp7JPgOV49YKEJN_sMysZEgOWuY-aSbzGXXIncWrD9QMdDE1fe1hyH5f/s960/41387.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="720" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihtiCVtTxsPP0HGpv_DtJRM1FpZ1iN8SjWy-fmqDazgEu2KNP2d50L7jG_NRAVBUNW4y_ZLi5Wk2S2wZFJQdp4D4l6rYJGntSwehVrIB16nWP6fl3r9wBNyWBAQo04HuI7kp7JPgOV49YKEJN_sMysZEgOWuY-aSbzGXXIncWrD9QMdDE1fe1hyH5f/s320/41387.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">A Reminder that next month is our Couples and Friend's Event
on Friday, July 8th. There are still fabric kits available at Hope if you'd like to get them ahead
of time. Feel free to use your own patriotic fabrics if you prefer. Should be a very enjoyable and entertaining evening!</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">So another great weekend of fellowship. I pray it
strengthens and encourages you until we can meet again. Look for the

weather has finally cooperated with dry weather and more normal spring
temps. But you are faithful <span face=""Segoe UI Symbol", sans-serif">❤</span>. We had a great group
this weekend! (No guilt for anyone who chooses to enjoy the beautiful weekend
elsewhere! We love all who support us in person and in spirit!)</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The call-out to focus on pillowcases this weekend for
The Iowa Quilt Block and our friend, Shelley's challenge to make pillowcases
for <a href="https://caseforsmiles.org/" target="_blank">Ryan's Case for Smiles</a>.
Shelley's goal was 500 from her customers. You took this challenge head-on and many people sewed pillowcases all weekend. A couple gals were busy putting pillowcase "kits" together and others just picked them up and kept sewing.
Didn't get an actual count but it wouldn't surprise me if we've started on
nearly 50 pillowcases! </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">A Challenge has been issued to all Hope Quilters to see
if we can make<b><span style="font-size: 13.5pt;"> 100 pillowcases</span></b> for
Shelley. Her goal was 500 by the end of the year so let's help her
surpass that goal!!!! Feel free to take your pillowcases to The
Iowa Quilt Block or bring them back to Hope Quilters. Shelley is offering
a gift certificate for every 10 you make so feel free to drop them off
yourself. Otherwise, bring them to Hope Quilters and we'll continue to
turn them in. I'd love to have a count of what we made so let me
know how many you made if you are taking them to The Quilt Block
directly. Also, please read the guidelines about washing the fabrics!</p><p class="MsoNormal">It wasn't all pillowcases this weekend.
Show and Tell was awesome as usual. Check out the <a href="http://hopequilters.blogspot.com/p/photos.html" target="_blank">blog</a> for pictures
of all the quilts. We donated to Door of Faith, YESS, Bidwell Riverside, and YESS as well as the Okoboji and Riverside Quilt Auctions. A
total of 32 quilts. You gals are awesome! There is also a new page on the blog entitled, "HQ History Corner". </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We got a generous donation again passed along from
The Iowa Quilt block and some from Meredith. Love the enjoyment seen on faces as
people "shop" through the "new" items. </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">A big THANK YOU to those who helped deliver all the finished items to Hope Missions, Many Hands Thrift, ARL, etc. This is a big help so no one gets the burden of being the lone delivery person.</p><p class="MsoNormal">The devotion this month about
God's Peace was especially helpful. Trust in the Lord. Keep
following, keep praying, and keep loving! It's not any more complicated
than that.. Rest, my sisters. </p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5403825677274928660.post-15459378082903945372022-04-12T19:10:00.000-05:002022-04-12T19:10:58.753-05:00April 2022 Work Day Recap<p>Well, we started on Friday with some flurries but we ended on
Saturday with a beautiful 60-degree afternoon. Aren't you tired of
that saying "if you don't like the weather in Iowa, just wait a couple
hours".......I think we should instead be saying something like "Hope
Quilters can turn a bad start into a beautiful outcome" <span style="font-family: "Segoe UI Symbol", sans-serif;">😁❤</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Some of the 2022 Sewing Challenges were either shown or project discussed. It's been really fun seeing what everyone is trying out that is new to them! Questions are asked, advice is given...it's been a great way to connect and share in the process!</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Show and Tell photos can be found <a href="http://hopequilters.blogspot.com/p/photos.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>. Some really neat quilts were donated to Sleep in Heavenly
Peace, Door of Faith, Primary Health Care, and the Care Ministry at Hope.
We also had a couple of quilts set aside for the bible camp auctions. </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">FYI: For those of you wanting to work on smaller
quilts. Let's change our focus to quilts for small children? We
want to slow down on the wheelchair blankets for now but we have many children's
mission partners to share with. We also have a fun collection of kids'
prints. </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This year, we will host a new event called <b>Couples and Friends
Sewing Night </b>it<b> </b>will be on <b>July 8th.</b> This will be a night to bring a
friend, sister, spouse, boyfriend, etc. to come to sew with you. Some may be
interested in taking up quilting. Others may just wonder what the heck
you do at these quilting weekends. Others may just wonder who these ladies you hang out with all the time are, LOL! You'll be the teacher and will guide your guest as they make
a block or two to add to the group patriotic quilt. </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Don't forget that our second retreat of the year is only two weeks away!</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>

weather (let's all choose to believe that will be true!😄) Perfect two
days to stay inside and sew with friends as they sure weren't days anyone
wanted to be outside. We had an awesome turnout! TWENTY-ONE gals in
attendance over the two days!!! Reminiscent of the olden days and a wonderful sign of good things to come!</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">A beautiful devotion was shared, reminding us of the different
ways a quilt can be a comfort. Show and Tell was great as always so be
sure to check out the <a href="http://hopequilters.blogspot.com/p/photos.html" target="_blank">PHOTOS</a>! We had many
quilts and designated them to go to Bidwell Riverside and the Afghan Refugee
Support Group. You gals are getting creative with the Wheelchair
blankets. We also had ten Walker Bags this time. The Care Ministry
really appreciates this. As always, the local Animal Rescue's thank you for
turning those fabric and batting scraps into comfy beds. We also
had a box full of sewing supplies and non-quilting fabric taken to
Many Hands Thrift Store. This is a thrift store that turns its profits
over to mission work. They align so nicely with our own mission and they
say the fabric and sewing supplies really sell well.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Many shared their progress and lots of discussion
about people's 2022 Challenges. It was really fun hearing about the progress on some of the members' Challenges, and experiencing the excitement with them from the sense of accomplishment from the new skills being learned. </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">An unexpected highlight of the weekend was watching people
explore the Orphan blocks bins. We have two bins of orphan blocks,
partially completed projects, pattern samples, and panels that we've been
collecting over time. Things you just don't want to throw away but it just
takes someone with a vision and initiative to turn them into a quilt. It
was so fun to watch the ideas being discussed and companion fabric selected.
Blocks laid out of the floor for size and design ideas. The
adventurous and enthusiastic spirit was quite contagious! Having a vision of something you can create is
inspiring. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Finally, we are starting to think about retreat
again. Make sure you have April 21 to 23 on your calendar.
More details to come in April!</p><p class="MsoNormal">Thanks for stopping by the blog!</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5403825677274928660.post-35695458696164119082022-02-20T08:45:00.000-06:002022-02-20T08:45:15.906-06:00February 2022 Work Day Recap<p>There was a really small gathering this month. Maybe
too cold for everyone?? But we had a great time discussing our challenge
projects and showing progress. You gals are on fire and really
stretching yourself. Isn't it fun to get encouragement from others
and see progress on something you've set your mind to? (Reminder of what the 2022 Fabric Challenge is: Any member who is interested can join in. There is no time limit for completion. Just stretching yourself this year with a new sewing technique or a pattern that inspires but maybe looks a bit daunting...just go for it!)</p><p class="MsoNormal">We turned in 14 finished quilts, all beautiful as always! <a href="https://hopequilters.blogspot.com/p/photos.html" target="_blank">PHOTOS</a></p><p class="MsoNormal">There's been a small side-line donation effort going on for a refugee organization, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/DSMRefugeeSupport">Des Moines Refugee Support</a>. So far there's been a couple sewing machines donated and a few sewing baskets filled with sewing notions, thank you to everyone who has pitched in to help with this donation!</p><p class="MsoNormal">And somebody must have been cleaning out their sewing rooms
as we also took NINE dog beds to the shelter Furry Friends Rescue. Yeah, keep those pups and kitties
off the cold floor.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">As always, it was so nice to be together. Hope to see
more of you as the weather starts to get nicer and the Covid numbers continue
to decline. Look for more news on a special Friday night outing in the
near future <span style="font-family: "Segoe UI Symbol", sans-serif;">😀</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5403825677274928660.post-75786244470385929262022-01-10T14:47:00.001-06:002022-01-10T14:48:29.973-06:00January 2022 Work Day Recap<p>2022 came in with a BANG. This photo from Saturday helps to explain:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjnsKRphQ3jb69iZKdx4SRazLcWCLViSuc93b02nWCY2F2EWMdSG75fd5Tj4djVAaIrnkZ8D9C2QMMq3M_OEQQ_v9Wq2OWZQBrMzpypzN6p0oiDXwJUUiBfMQ0_LHDS-9hNAS7JLM0eYQZ34lNZHa7fb017II-Rae6iMKjLQ5WiCgL3AxdbEzsLxtkn=s880" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="880" data-original-width="660" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjnsKRphQ3jb69iZKdx4SRazLcWCLViSuc93b02nWCY2F2EWMdSG75fd5Tj4djVAaIrnkZ8D9C2QMMq3M_OEQQ_v9Wq2OWZQBrMzpypzN6p0oiDXwJUUiBfMQ0_LHDS-9hNAS7JLM0eYQZ34lNZHa7fb017II-Rae6iMKjLQ5WiCgL3AxdbEzsLxtkn=s320" width="240" /></a></div><p>All that was left from another HUGE donation! Almost as
many bolts on Friday and every quilter took home anywhere from one to LOTS of
bolts that inspired them for new projects. So yes, 2022 came in
with a bang for Hope Quilters. Shelly Draur and <a href="https://theiowaquiltblock.com/" target="_blank">The Iowa Quilt Block</a> are
fans of our ministry. If you don't know Shelly, Hollie, Sarah, or
any of the staff at the store we strongly encourage you to stop by and say Hi
and a big THANK YOU. The quilt store is awesome! </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">We had intended to clean out our bins anyway in the near
future but this donation was enough to allow us to just purge the old, sending
those small pieces to Many Hands for Haiti Thrift Store. We filled up all
the bins and shelves with new fabric! Awesome to see how everyone started pulling out their favorites with an
eye towards certain mission partners' needs. And for the old fabric and
some of the bolts we couldn't use, we were able to bless the Thrift Store
mission as well. They were so excited to receive the fabric. While this
is not a new feeling for our group, this verse from Luke,
completely encapulates what took place this weekend: </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p><div align="center">

a generous helping, poured into your hands--all that you can hold. The
measure you use for others is the one that God will use for you."
Luke 6:38</span><i><span style="color: #b34700; font-family: Roboto;"><o:p></o:p></span></i></p>
</td>
</tr>
</tbody></table>
</div><p class="MsoNormal">While most were engaged in reorganizing fabric, those
with sewing machines worked on some JOPPA blankets. This past week
was a reminder of how important these heavy blankets are, with temperatures dipping dangerously low. We also turned
in 33 quilts for mission partners. 2022
fabric challenge was mentioned but we didn't discuss it in detail. We'll discuss more in
February. So keep thinking about what you'd like to do to challenge
yourself this year. Think of this as an opportunity, not a task to
dread. This desired effect is individual fulfillment, not the output. </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">One more reminder of the upcoming
retreat. We will be at Hope Waukee on Thursday, January 20 thru Saturday,
January 22. An email with more details will be sent as the time gets
closer! </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><a href="http://hopequilters.blogspot.com/p/photos.html" target="_blank">PHOTOS </a>page for quilts and lap blankets turned in this month! Reflecting on the experiences we've shared this past year, there is much to be thankful for. We respectfully
adjusted as necessary to stay safe from the COVID risk. While it seemed slow
and frustrating at times, we still managed to be here for each other, for
those that we serve, and those who our quilts keep warm. Hoping each and every month
everyone felt uplifted after being together! </p><p>At the end of this year, here's a reminder
of the good work you've done. This year we've donated 274 items to
the missions of the church. This includes our new endeavor of making lap
blankets and walker bags for the Care Ministry team to share with
shut-ins. Quilts we donated raised around $4500 at Riverside and Okoboji
Bible Camp quilt auctions. This money goes for their camp programs.
We found a great way to use heavy fabrics (unsuitable for quilts) making pet
beds, stuffing them with our scraps rather than having them end up in the
trash. The ARL and A-Heinz57 have been very grateful. It's
always a good feeling to find new outlets for our work <span face=""Segoe UI Symbol", sans-serif">❤</span> and
to see nothing go to waste.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We have found a place for our sewing machine donations from
Georgia. We will donate them to the Des Moines Refugee Support group who
is helping 'foster' the Afghan refugees who are relocating to our area.
Besides a new machine, we will include a sewing basket of notions to go with
them. We'll assemble this at our January meeting. We're looking for
things for garment sewing, not quilting. We'll collect anything you
have to share and then do some shopping to finish out the donation.</p><p class="MsoNormal">There were praises for answered prayers <span face=""Segoe UI Symbol", sans-serif">❤ </span>and there were many prayer concerns mentioned. God is so good. He has filled the heart of each Hope Quilter with compassion and love towards those who are hurting and struggling during this season, and they uphold each other and encourage one another during the more difficult times in our lives. It's a blessing to see God's love in action.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Finally, a quick reminder that the retreat is next
month! Thursday thru Saturday, Jan 20-22 is our next retreat at
Waukee. </p><p class="MsoNormal">In closing, an invitation is extended to all of you to come experience <a href="https://www.lutheranchurchofhope.org/journey-to-the-light/" target="_blank">Journey to the Light</a> at the WDM campus. See dates and times in the <a href="https://www.lutheranchurchofhope.org/journey-to-the-light/" target="_blank">link provided</a>.
This is a wonderful light display that tells the Christmas Story in a
beautiful way! Prayers everyone stays healthy and can enjoy time
with family during the rest of this Christmas season and into the New
Year. </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><a href="http://hopequilters.blogspot.com/p/photos.html" target="_blank">PHOTOS</a> of all the items made that will hopefully be a blessing to many!</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5403825677274928660.post-54607238298220691842021-11-17T18:06:00.001-06:002021-11-17T18:06:11.427-06:00November 2021 Work Day Recap<p> As always, it was a wonderful couple of days spent with
quilting friends. Thanks to Phyllis for sharing a devotion on
Inspiration! </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We got so much accomplished. Most of the blocks we
made at the Social gathering a couple weeks ago were turned into quilt
tops. Several new patterns have been made up for our pre-cut sizes and there
are many new kits in the boxes. It will be exciting to see these put
together! We received another great donation from our friend, Lin, at Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Besides some kits with beautiful florals, there was yardage of adorable baby
flannel. This was all distributed in order to make simple baby
blankets we can give to several of Hope's mission partners. It's so fun to see what we can
do with what we've been given.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">One thing we are going to try and monitor is our collection
of pre-cuts. We're just getting too many. So the new challenge is: before you bring your smaller scraps back to HQ, why don't you
turn them into a block? We're collecting 9.5 or 12.5 blocks and I'll put
them together in kits for scrappy quilts. You can use the 3-6-9
measurements that we've been cutting or you can use the improv method to make
your block! We will continue to have one or
two bins of precuts as many like to sew with these. But we are definitely

<p class="MsoNormal">Another great option for using your scaps is making
half-square triangle (HST) blocks. Here is a great example of how easy it
is to put just about anything into the same quilt and look cool! (Thanks
Sandy!) Here is a basic tutorial about making HST</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">We will also do some technique teaching in December to see
how we can make HST many ways. You can see how this creates so many
options for interesting quilts. This link was titled 180 layouts for
HST. <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/arizonagirl/hst-layouts/" target="_blank">https://www.pinterest.com/arizonagirl/hst-layouts/</a><o:p></o:p></p>

LSI. Seven wheelchair blankets were given to the Care Ministry as well. Eight dog beds were delivered to the ARL. We've heard the news lately
about the many Afghanistan refugees that will be coming to Iowa. Many of
our quilts will go to them. And there was a recent dog-hoarder story
where over 500 dogs were rescued. Even our scraps can serve to bring
comfort to our four-legged friends<span style="font-family: "Segoe UI Symbol",sans-serif; mso-bidi-font-family: "Segoe UI Symbol";">❤</span>.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">It's coming up before we know it. Put our next retreat
dates on your calendar now so it doesn't get lost in the business of the
upcoming holiday season. January's retreat is on the calendar for
the 20th, 21st, and 22nd. </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
